The selection process may incorporate psychological, aptitude, general ability, simulations or exercises and other assessments. These assessments provide us with the opportunity to make a fair and objective evaluation of your skills and abilities in relation to the position you have applied for. We find that we gain information from these types of assessments, which cannot accurately be gained from other parts of the selection process.

OneSteel typically uses SHL assessments for recruitment and selection purposes.

Cognitive ability assessments are used to assess the extent to which you are able to carry out various aspects of a job and looks at a variety of skills with varying levels of difficulty.  There are two different methods of completing these cognitive assessments, dependent on the business with which you have applied for.

  • Unsupervised: This method allows you to complete the online assessments in your own time in an unsupervised environment. Instructions will be provided to you at the time and it is important to follow all of the instructions. Please note, successful candidates may be asked to later sit a shorter supervised version of the same cognitive assessments to validate their responses and results.
  • Supervised: This method requires you to complete the online assessments at a OneSteel site, with a OneSteel team member. It is important that you attend your allocated appointment time.

If you would like to have access to practice tests, please log onto www.shldirect.com for further information.

OneSteel also requires you to complete a personality questionnaire which can be completed in your own time. The questionnaire is untimed and assists us in identifying your preferred style of working. It is important that you respond to this questionnaire whilst thinking about yourself in the workplace.

The above assessments will take approximately 1-2 hours altogether to complete.

OneSteel uses Previsor assessments for recruitment and selection of its talent programs. Assessments are particular to the graduate, apprentice, cadet or trainee role you are applying to, and include cognitive and competency-based assessments.
