OUR APPROACH
OneSteel recognises that achieving positive sustainable relationships within the communities in which we operate is imperative to the success of our business. At OneSteel we have fostered a responsible approach to demonstrating social responsibility, by promoting values and initiatives such as investment and enggement that show respect for the people and communities associated with our business.
There are a number of key initiatives and consultation based programs that have been formed, further strengthened or dissolved, to reflect key issues that affect our local communities. In addition, OneSteel and our employees pride themselves on physically or monetarily supporting regional and local activities across Australia - from providing education and training, donations and sponsorships through to charity fundraising events.
OUR PERFORMANCE
Investment and Development
This financial year, through donation via OneSteels workplace giving program "OneCommunity" and community investment outside of the program, OneSteel and our employees have raised and invested over $542,000 in total for the community.
OneCommunity
For OneSteel, community is vital to the success of our operations. The community supports our people, providing services that we all use in our daily lives. The OneCommunity workplace giving program provides a way for all employees to give something back to the community and assist those that are less fortunate.
Since the OneCommunity workplace giving program was established in December 2003, OneSteel and our employees have generously donated around $1.3 million through the program. OneSteel matches employee contributions up to $250,000 per annum.
OneCommunity currently supports 12 charities in our community, providing necessary financial aid. Over the past financial year, OneSteel and our employees have assisted these charities by donating approximately $219,000.

We are currently undertaking employee engagement activities in order to better understand how we can increase employee participation in community giving programmes and ultimately our positive impact on communities.
Other Investments
OneSteel and our emloyees have contributed over $323,000 in community investments this financial year; through community fundraising activities, sponsorships, donations and other investments at a regional level. Since 2001, such community investments outside the OneSteel workplace giving program have exceeded $2.5 million.
COMMUNITY
Random Acts of Kindness
OneSteel contributed $20,000 in bar, wire and mesh products to two local heroes through the Nine Network's 'Random Acts of Kindness' television show. The donation of OneSteel's products saw the completion of a baseball field for a Bankstown local who volunteers his time to teach children with special needs baseball and sportsmanship. OneSteel's products were also used to build a boxing shed for a couple that fund boxing classes for youth.
Laverton Steel Mill Saving our Kids
The Laverton Steel Mill 'Save our Kids' program was established with the aim of donating funds to a variety of youth focused initiatives. This year has seen the contribution of over $10,000 directly from employees' wages to a variety of local issues; from homelessness, illness, education and special needs based programs.
Banking on Food
This year, OneSteel pledged to provide $10,000 a year for the next five years to Foodbank South Australia. Foodbank comprises of over 35 social welfare organisations that have signed up to the program in an effort to supply packaged food to those in need. Foodbank is closely working with Save the Children, Australian Red Cross and Mission Australia to assist in food education programs in schools.
