Welcome
You’re standing on the tarmac at Adelaide airport, holding your carry-on luggage and feeling the wind
rush across the asphalt. There’s a sense of adventure in the air as you board the plane, finding your
seat and getting ready for take-off. The feeling builds as the plane taxies across the tarmac, and with a
lurch, you’re airborne.
You look out the window as the place climbs, taking in a vista of blue ocean and lush, green fields.
Clouds travel in packs, their shadows crossing the ocean’s rippling surface. You fly west, and the city
gives way to a mosaic of fields, then to the ocean itself. On the far coast, you see the first shadows of a
city, which quickly becomes a town. The plane starts to descend, the sun glinting off the whitecaps as it
dips back towards earth.
As you fly over the town, you can see both sides of the town as one. On one side, a community, with
shops and schools and everything you need to make a life. On the other, a thriving business that offers
security and real opportunity to make a name for yourself. Together, a place where the work is
rewarding, and the living is easy.
The plane touches down, and with a smile, the flight attendant says “Welcome to Whyalla”.
