Galvanised Manufacturing Wire

OneSteel Galvanised Wire is manufactured to comply with AS/NZS 4534 – Zinc and zinc/ aluminium-alloy Coatings on Steel Wire.

The metallic zinc coatings applied by the galvanising process are an effective way of combating corrosion in steel. Galvanised wire for general manufacturing purposes is available in a Standard Galvanised coating (Class W02) and Heavy Galvanised coating (Class W10). Intermediate Galvanised (Class W05) and Ultra Heavy Galvanised (Class W25) & LifeMax® coatings are also available upon enquiry.

Standard Galvanised coatings are typically smoother, however less corrosion resistant than Heavy Galvanised coatings and are often used in general wire working applications. Some typical end uses include cages, bucket handles, coat hangers and baskets.

Heavy Galvanised coatings are used in conditions where atmospheric corrosion is severe. End uses include crop support wires where chemicals are used, pool fencing or chain mesh in coastal areas.

LifeMax® wires are available in a wide range of sizes. LifeMax® is a zinc/aluminium alloy coating that offers improved corrosion performance over conventional galvanised wires. It also has excellent coating ductility and weldability – ideal for woven or welded meshes.

over 6.00mm up to and incl. 10.68mm +/-0.15

Tensile Strength (MPa)

The tensile strength is defined as the maximum load achieved in the tensile test, divided by the cross-sectional area of the wire test piece. Galvanised Manufacturing Wire is produced using soft, medium and hard grade wires.

Grade Tensile Strength
Galvanised - Soft Quality 380/550
Galvanised - Medium Quality 500/625
Galvanised - Hard Quality 625/850

Note: the sizes mentioned above are indicative only and do not specify the size range available from OneSteel.

Steel chemistry

OneSteel uses a combination of steel grades and heat treatment processes to manufacture soft, medium and hard tensile grades.

Tensile Grade % Carbon % Phosphorus % Manganese % Silicon % Sulphur
Soft 0.05 max 0.03 max 0.05 max 0.12-0.18 0.03 max
